How to increase online sales? Most people who launch online businesses fail. The reasons are many but they all boil down to one thing: they don't see enough return on their time and money investments.

Most of the strategies will show you how you can increase sales using free or cheap tools. You may even be reluctant about some of them because they seem too simple, however I've tested them out myself before writing this post and most of the strategies work better than more complicated solutions that are supposed to help you do the same thing.

Although many sites who sell "secrets" to success would have you believe otherwise it takes hard work, dedication, patience and trial-and-error to master any business, especially an online one. That said, I'm confident you can increase sales using these strategies.

1. Optimize Your Site For Search Engines - Don't Use The Word "FREE" In Your Title Tags Or Headlines

If you've been blogging a long time you probably know this already but I'm going to remind you of it anyway. 

When you're writing your page titles, headlines and meta descriptions don't include the word "free".  Why? Well for starters it's because you want to rank for keywords that people are actually searching for, not some keyword that your competition ranks well for but nobody is ever searching for.

The head term "free" gets tons of searches every day but many of those searches are related to non-paid things like free speech, freedom fries or a person who has yet to pay off their student loans!

When people search for free stuff they tend to search in a different way than when they're looking at buying something. For example when someone is shopping around looking at guitars they'll use phrases like: best guitar under $500, acoustic guitars for beginners or cheap guitar amps.

However, if they're looking for free stuff they'll use phrases like: how to get free guitar lessons, where can I find free sheet music or how to download free guitar tabs.

You see the difference? The first set of phrases are all about buying something while the second set of phrases are all about getting something for free.

Because of this you want to optimize your site for keywords that people are actually searching for, not some keyword that is only tangentially related to what you're selling.

In addition to this, you also don't want to use the word "free" in your page titles, headlines or meta descriptions because it will decrease your click-through rate, which means that people are less likely to actually visit your site.

So what should you include in your page titles? Well it depends on what you're selling but if you're only mentioning the word "free" because it's relevant to your offer then go ahead and use it in there somewhere.  

For example, if I'm writing a post about how my tool is free for life then I'll include the word "free" in my meta description so that readers know this.  

However if your product or service isn't free then simply omit the word from those parts of the text altogether since search engines don't give keywords nearly as much weight when they are part of a heading or subheading versus being used throughout the body of the post.

2. Optimize Your Site For Click-Through Rate - Use The Right Keywords In Your Page Titles, Heading Tags & Meta Descriptions

Although search engines are important, don't underestimate how much your click-through rate will affect your bottom line.  Why?  Because when someone does a Google (or Bing!) search and they land on one of your pages, if they like what you offer then you want them to click through to another page on your site or at least come back in the future.

So make use of keywords in titles, headings and meta descriptions because it increases the odds that people will actually click-through and visit your site once they've landed there.

In addition to this, make sure that your site looks good on mobile devices.  This is important because it seems like more and more people are browsing the web using their smartphones and tablets.

According to recent studies, 61% of users say that they're very likely to return to a website if it's mobile friendly but only 34% of users say the same about websites that aren't mobile friendly. So make sure that your site looks good on all devices by using responsive design techniques or else you'll lose out on a large chunk of potential visitors.

3. Increase Customer Loyalty With A Frequent Buyers Program

One way to increase sales is to increase customer loyalty by implementing a frequent buyers program. This is a program where customers are rewarded for buying from you on a regular basis.

There are a few different ways to do this. One way is to give customers a discount for every purchase that they make. Another way is to give them bonus points for every purchase that they make which can be redeemed for future discounts or free products or services.

A third way is to give them exclusive access to special deals and discounts that aren't available to the general public. whichever way you choose, make sure that the rewards are enticing enough that customers actually want to participate in the program.

4. Increase Sales By Offering Free Shipping On All Orders

One of the best ways to increase sales is to give your customers free shipping. One study showed that giving away free shipping could increase sales by as much as 24%. In addition, another study showed that 32% of consumers said that they're more likely to buy something if it's offered with free shipping.

And yet another survey discovered that 65% of shoppers say that they would be very likely or somewhat likely to shop at a site again if the site offers free shipping.

But what about when customers have to spend a certain amount before you'll give them free shipping?  Well it turns out this doesn't really make too much of a difference one way or another. 

A survey found that most people (69%) weren't willing to spend more than $10 to qualify for free shipping. So if you want to increase sales, it's a good idea to offer free shipping on all orders.

5. Increase Sales By Offering A Discount For First-Time Customers

Another way to increase sales is to offer a discount for first-time customers. This is a great way to get new customers in the door and it can also help increase customer loyalty since they'll be more likely to come back in the future if they know that they'll get a discount every time they do.

There are a few different ways to do this. One way is to give new customers a percentage off of their first purchase. Another way is to give them a flat discount off of their purchase to say "thank you" for shopping with you.

A third way is to give them a certain number of reward points that they can use towards future purchases. Whichever way you choose, make sure that the discount or offer is enticing enough that customers will want to come back in the future.

6. Increase Sales By Expanding Your Product Line Or Services Offered

If you're not already selling a certain product then consider expanding your product line or services offered. This could be a good opportunity for increasing sales since it means that your potential customer base just expanded as well, so if someone was thinking about buying from your competitor now maybe they'll buy from you instead.  

There are a few different ways to do this. One way is to add new products that are related to your current products. Another way is to add complementary products that can be used together with your current products.

A third way is to add products that are in a different category but still complement what you're currently selling. Whichever way you choose, make sure that the new products or services are high quality and offer good value for the money.

7. Increase Sales By Offering A Coupon Code

One of the easiest ways to increase sales is by offering a coupon code. This is a code that customers can enter at checkout in order to get a discount on their purchase.

There are a few different ways to do this. One way is to offer a percentage discount off of the total purchase. Another way is to offer a fixed dollar amount discount off of the total purchase.

A third way is to offer a free item or service with a minimum purchase requirement. whichever way you choose, make sure that the coupon code is easy to find and that it's easily accessible on your website.

8. Increase Sales By Offering A Free Shipping Coupon Code

Another way to increase sales is by offering a free shipping coupon code. This is a code that customers can enter at checkout in order to get free shipping on their purchase.

There are a few different ways to do this. One way is to offer free shipping on all orders.  Another way is to offer free shipping on orders over a certain dollar amount.

A third way is to offer a specific range of products for free shipping, such as "free shipping on all items of $30 or more." Whichever way you choose, make sure that the coupon code is easy to find and that it's easily accessible on your website.

9.  Increase Sales By Offering A Free Sample For Customers To Try Out First Before They Buy

Another good tactic for increasing sales is by offering a free sample for customers to try out first before they buy anything from you. This can be an effective tactic since it's free so there's no risk involved, and if they like what they try then chances are that they'll want to buy something from you later on.

One way to do this is offering a free sample of your product in small doses. For example, you could give customers the opportunity to try out one ounce of soap before buying anything or offer them five grams of coffee beans for their morning cup of coffee.  

Another way to do this is by offering a larger sample pack that includes several different samples of your products at once.  

This helps save money for the customer since they won't have to purchase multiple smaller packs but it still offers them the chance to try out more than one product without having to make an investment.

Whichever way you choose, make sure that the sample is high quality and accurately represents your brand so customers know what they can expect to get if they buy from you.

10. Increase Sales By Offering A Guarantee

Offering a guarantee on all of your products and services can also help increase sales by giving people more confidence in what they're buying from you.  

It shows that you stand behind your products or services which helps reduce any concerns or fears about whether the customer will be disappointed with their purchase.  

This means that not only do customers have less of a reason to look for alternatives but also if something does go wrong then there's no risk involved because you've already offered them an ironclad guarantee.

There are a few different types of guarantees you can offer.  You could offer an unconditional money back guarantee which means that if the customer isn't satisfied with their purchase then they get their money back, no questions asked. Another type of guarantee is one that offers to repair or replace the product if there are any issues.  

This works well for items that are prone to breakage but may not be cost effective for large purchases since it may require shipping both ways. Yet another type of guarantee is one that offers to extend the life of your product so customers don't have to worry about using it up quickly before needing to buy more.

Whichever way you choose, make sure that your guarantee is offered on all of your products and services, is easy to find on your website, and is explained in detail so customers know exactly what they're getting if they decide to purchase from you.
